March 4, 2010 - HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius meeting with Spanish Health Minister.

March 4, 2010 - Secretary Sebelius met with Trinidad Jiménez García-Herrera, Spanish Minister of Health and Social Policy.  Their discussion identified a number of areas for cooperation, particularly health information technology, fighting childhood obesity and responding to global disease outbreaks such as H1N1.  Minister Jiménez indicated that Spain hopes to join the Unites States and other countries in donating H1N1 vaccine for use in developing countries under the initiative launched by President Obama in September 2009:

According to Minister Jiménez, health information technology (IT) is a priority during the Spanish Presidency of the European Union.  With the support of the Spanish Ministry of Health, a framework for cooperation between HHS and the European Commission in this area is being established.  This cooperation will include creating a common approach for assessing the benefits of health IT, improving interoperability across national borders, and developing ways to measure the adoption of health IT.
