President Bush Returns from Successful Africa Trip
July 14, 2003 - President Bush recently concluded his historic five-day visit to the African continent. While there, the president visited five countries—Senegal, South Africa, Uganda, Botswana, and Nigeria—and spoke with African leaders about economic development, the fight against HIV/AIDS, and security.
Chief among President Bush’s agenda items was the discussion of his emergency plan for AIDS relief, an unprecedented program that commits $15 billion over five years to combat the international scourge of HIV/AIDS.
